In our research we apply theoretical electronic structure methods, mainly density functional theory, to investigate the structure and reactivity of transition metal oxide surfaces. Main research topics are:

  • The role of defects in the reactivity
  • Water oxidation chemistry on transition metal oxides
  • Surface properties of naturally layered transition metal perovskites

In addition to this focus on photocatalysis, the group is also active in the following areas:

  • Defect chemistry under external strain, electric and magnetic fields
  • Classical molecular dynamics applied to biomedical applications
  • Colloidal particle interaction (development of the Hamaker code)
